Takeaways:
Dear colleagues,
Last week the Board of Trustees selected the new chancellor of our university and set her salary at $950,000 in order to be competitive with the salaries of managers at other public Association of American universities (AAUs). The chair of the board, Doug Browning, admitted in a Pitt News article that faculty salaries also need to be raised to remain competitive with our AAU peer institutions. Last semester, our bargaining committee presented a proposal that would help to close this gap. We still have not received a counterproposal from the administration.
Join us at the final bargaining session of the semester on April 18 at 9:45 AM to demonstrate to the administration’s bargaining team that we are invested in a strong contract that guarantees fair pay for faculty. We will meet at 9:45 AM outside of the Schenley Dr. entrance.
- Join us for a solidarity action at the final bargaining session of the semester. On April 18, we will meet at 9:45 AM outside of the Schenley Dr. entrance to Posvar.
- Visit a table or talk to a Communication and Action Team (CAT) member about signing a membership card. These are different from authorization cards, which you may have signed in the past. If you haven’t signed a card in the last few weeks, you aren’t yet an official member of our union!
- Join the CAT to help communicate with faculty members and collect membership cards in your area.

We know that these actions have an impact on bargaining. The Board of Trustees heard us when we called for fair pay at their public meeting. Now we need to continue to put pressure on the administration to pick up the pace of bargaining and come to the table with a response to our compensation proposal.
Sign your membership card!
Have you signed your union membership card yet? This card is different from the union authorization card that you may have signed in the past. If you haven’t signed a card in the past few weeks, you are not yet an official member of our union. Unless you are a union member, you will not be able to vote on our contract, or make other important decisions about our union. Throughout April, we will have opportunities for you to stop by a table on the Oakland campus to ask questions about membership and sign a card.
Here is where we will be this week:
Tuesday, April 11- 11 AM-2 PM Cathedral Commons (First floor lobby)
Thursday, April 13- 11 AM-2 PM Benedum Hall outside patio
If you are at a regional campus, or if you would prefer, you can reach out to a CAT member in your area to request a conversation and a card or complete this form and someone will be in touch with you. Membership cards are paper and must be signed in person.
We would love to have your help with this effort. Do you know two or three faculty members you could ask to sign a card? Join our team to learn how to collect membership cards in your area.
We are sure that you have questions and we are happy to answer them. Stop by a table or reach out to a CAT member to ask questions, get answers, and sign a card!
In Solidarity,
Your Communication and Action Team (CAT)
