The labor board mailed the ballots (from Harrisburg, PA) on August 27 to everyone on the voter list, so we expect most voters to receive them shortly thereafter. Keep an eye out for an envelope from the Pennsylvania Labor Relations Board (PLRB) with the crest of the Commonwealth on it.
Pitt’s administration has refused to correct any of the addresses it provided that were incorrect or out of date, so if your ballot doesn’t arrive, you can request (starting on September 13) that the PLRB send a duplicate ballot to the correct address. To request a duplicate ballot, email [email protected] with your full name, mailing address, job title, reason for the request, and the name of your employer (University of Pittsburgh).
Inside the envelope you receive from the PLRB, you will find four items: an instruction sheet, a ballot, a blank ballot envelope, and a return envelope. The blank ballot envelope will maintain the confidentiality of your vote.
To vote to form a faculty union at Pitt, you should put an X in the box next to “United Steelworkers.” (Our union will be under the umbrella of, and supported by, the United Steelworkers.) Do not put any other marks on the ballot.
Put the ballot in the blank ballot envelope and seal it. Make sure not to put any marks on the blank ballot envelope.
Then put that sealed, blank ballot envelope in the postage-paid return envelope, sign the return envelope, and put it in the mail as soon as possible, just in case there are any delays with the mail. To be counted, your ballot must be received by the PLRB in Harrisburg no later than October 12. (This is not a postmarked-by date, so it is a good idea to get your ballot in the mail as soon as possible.)
The PLRB will start counting the votes a week later, on October 19, and the counting process will likely take two or three days.
