Takeaways:
Dear colleagues,
Are you still not sure what it means to be a member of our Union? You can find answers to frequently asked questions about Union membership on our website, but the best way to learn more is to stop by a membership card table or request a conversation and let us know the best way to contact you.
To make it easier for you to get your questions answered and sign a card, we are setting up at tables in coffee shops and other public spaces all over Pittsburgh and Western PA this month. Look for the “Pitt faculty: Sign your Union membership card here!” sign. While you are visiting these establishments, we encourage you to grab a beverage and give your barista a good tip!
Here is where you can find us this week:
Our bargaining committee made substantial progress in negotiations last month. Once they reach a tentative agreement with the administration, there will likely be a short window during which Union members can vote on whether or not we want to ratify the contract. We will want to lock in the transparency, protections, and benefits of this contract as soon as possible. You will not be able to vote on our contract unless you are a Union member. We will not start paying dues until we ratify our contract. Now is the perfect time to sign a card to make sure you are ready to vote when the time comes!
Remember that being included in the bargaining unit does not automatically make you a member of our Union. The membership card is different from the authorization card you may have signed when we were forming our Union. If you have not signed a card this year, you are not a member of our Union yet.
We enjoy meeting our colleagues and having conversations about membership and bargaining. We hope that you will be able to find the time to come out to a table this week, but if not you can always email us with questions or concerns. You can either reply to this email or send an email to [email protected].
