Students voice support for our Union!
Takeaways
Dear colleagues,
Last night, members of Pitt’s Student Government Board (SGB) voted unanimously to pass R-2023-3, “Student Solidarity with the Faculty Union”. Along with expressing “firm solidarity” with our Union, they are calling on the administration to stop spending tuition money on union busting and reach a fair contract with us in a timely manner.
We’d like to express our appreciation to the SGB for their strong support. We have always asserted that our working conditions are students’ learning conditions and faculty having a greater voice in determining those conditions makes Pitt a better institution for faculty, students, and our community.
This resolution sends a powerful message to the administration that students and faculty cannot be divided. However, ultimately our power and effectiveness as a Union comes from our members. The more members we have making clear to the administration that they stand behind their bargaining committee, the more power we have to lock in the improvements and protections that will make our lives and the lives of our students better.
If you have not signed a membership card yet, now is the time to do so. For faculty on the Oakland campus, we will have a membership card table set up on the first floor of the Cathedral from 12-2 PM on Friday (10/27). Drop by, ask questions, give feedback, and sign your card. If those times or locations are not convenient for you, you can request a digital card. As always, feel free to reach out to your local CAT member or shoot us an email at [email protected] if you have any questions or concerns.
