CAT UPDATE
February 8, 2024
Join us in the fight for a $60k salary floor for all Pitt faculty
Takeaways:
Dear colleagues,
The administration continues to propose excluding certain groups of faculty members (Instructors, visiting, Falk, and, on a pro rata basis, part-time) from a $60,000 annual salary floor. These faculty members have advanced degrees and expertise in their fields. They contribute vital work to the university and deserve to be paid fairly for their work. Women are overrepresented among full-time faculty in the groups that the administration would like to exclude. A $60,000 salary floor can help close the gender gap in pay at Pitt and help us attract and retain the best faculty.
We think Pitt students, parents, and alumni deserve to know that the administration is not prioritizing fair pay for faculty in the allocation of their tuition money, tax dollars, and donations.
Join us this Sunday, February 11, from 11 AM-12 PM outside of the lower entrance to the Petersen Events Center to talk with attendees of the annual Pink the Pete Women’s Basketball game about the low pay for Pitt faculty, particularly female faculty. After the action, you are welcome to join us in cheering on our women’s basketball team!
We love Pitt. We love our jobs. And we deserve to be paid fairly for the work that we do to make this university run!
It will take all of us, working together to win fair pay for Pitt faculty. If you haven’t done so yet (and we know many of you have) sign a union membership card today. If you have any questions about membership, feel free to reply to this email and a CAT member will contact you.
We hope that you will join us as union members and join us on Sunday to fight for fair pay for ALL Pitt faculty! Please RSVP to let us know if you can make it.
In Solidarity,
