BARGAINING UPDATE
March 29, 2023
Takeaways:
Dear colleagues,
Now that we have presented a complete contract proposal and have received responses from the administration on most non-economic topics, we have a clearer view of the overall status of our contract negotiations. We’ve compiled that into a table with descriptions of each proposal and notes on the progress we’ve made for each. We’ll keep this updated as bargaining continues:

We are proud of the progress we have made, especially on key priorities around appointments and renewals for part-time and non-tenure-stream faculty. We are still pushing the administration to present their proposals on compensation, so we can move toward a complete contract. In the meantime, we will continue to hash out the details of our non-economic proposals to ensure the best possible language to protect our jobs and strengthen our voice at work.
We meet next with the administration on Tuesday, April 4. We are anticipating them coming to the table with counterproposals on Appointment and Renewal, Academic Freedom, Tenure and Promotion, and Shared Governance. These are key areas where we are ready to make progress toward agreements, and the only hold-up is delay on the administration’s side.
The most important thing you can do to help us make progress at the table is to join the Communication and Action Team in your area to inform your colleagues about the issues we are negotiating over, to pass along their feedback to us, and to encourage them to participate in our Union.
In solidarity,
Your bargaining committee
