COMMUNICATION & ACTION TEAM (CAT) UPDATE
July 3, 2023
Takeaways:
Dear colleagues,
Our bargaining committee made substantial progress in negotiations last month. Once they reach a tentative agreement with the administration, there will likely be a short window during which Union members can vote on whether or not we want to ratify the contract. We will want to lock in the transparency, protections, and benefits of this contract as soon as possible. You will not be able to vote on our contract unless you are a Union member. This is why we are reaching out now to make sure that everyone has the opportunity to learn about Union membership and sign a card before it is time to vote.
Remember that being included in the bargaining unit does not automatically make you a member of our Union. The membership card is different from the authorization card you may have signed when we were forming our Union. If you have not signed a card this year, you are not a member of our Union yet.
You can find answers to frequently asked questions about Union membership on our website, but the best way to learn more is to stop by a membership card table or request a conversation and let us know the best way to contact you.
We know that it is not convenient for many of you to get to campus during the summer. So, although we will continue to table on the Oakland campus, we will also be setting up at tables in coffee shops and other public spaces all over Pittsburgh and Western PA this month. Look for the “Pitt faculty: Sign your Union membership card here!” sign. While you are visiting these establishments, we encourage you to grab a beverage and give your barista a good tip!
Here is where you can find us this week:
We hope that you enjoy your 4th of July holiday and that you have been able to get some well-deserved rest this summer. We’ve enjoyed meeting many of you and having conversations about membership and bargaining. As always, feel free to reach out with any questions or concerns. You can reply to this email or email us at [email protected].
