COMMUNICATION & ACTION TEAM (CAT) UPDATE
June 20, 2023
Takeaways:
Dear colleagues,
As our bargaining committee continues to make progress towards a tentative agreement on our full contract with the administration, we continue to collect membership cards. Once our bargaining committee and the administration reach a tentative agreement, there will likely be a short window during which members can vote on whether or not they want to ratify the contract. We will want to lock in the transparency, protections, and benefits of this contract as soon as possible. This is why we are reaching out now to make sure that everyone has the opportunity to learn about membership and sign a card.
Remember that being included in the bargaining unit does not automatically make you a member of our Union. The contract will apply to everyone in the bargaining unit, but only Union members who have signed membership cards will be able to vote on our contract. The membership card is different from the authorization card you may have signed when we were forming our Union. If you have not signed a card this year, you are not a member of our Union yet.
You can find answers to frequently asked questions about Union membership on our website, but the best way to learn more is to stop by a membership card table or request a conversation and let us know the best way to contact you.
Here is where you can find us on the Oakland campus this week:
This will likely be our final membership card tabling session on the Oakland campus for the summer. We’ve enjoyed meeting many of you and having conversations about membership and the status of contract negotiations. As always, feel free to reach out with any questions or concerns.
