Dear Colleagues,

The administration has announced an expected 4% increase in the compensation pool for staff and non-bargaining unit faculty members for FY 2023-2024. The administration cannot unilaterally determine annual raises for faculty in the bargaining unit. By law, they must negotiate these with us. Merit, equity, and similar increases for individual faculty are still permitted under our agreement with the administration from last summer.

We are including our FY 2023-2024 annual raise as part of our larger contract negotiations because it gives us the power to push for higher raises, lock in annual raises for multiple years in advance, and to negotiate salaries as part of a broader compensation package, which includes health insurance, retirement, and other benefits. For example, with the input and support of our members, we have refused the administration’s request to raise your health insurance rates and deductibles without knowing what our salaries will be going forward.

In order to ensure that we are able to lock in good annual raises for the life of the contract and lock them in quickly, we need you! Our power at the table directly reflects the strength of our membership. If you have not done so yet, sign a membership card and attend our membership meeting on August 10 so that we can discuss how we can win a good contract together.

Last fall, we presented a compensation proposal (along with other economic proposals) to the administration and have not received a response. To ensure that we are all provided significant and fair raises, we will continue to push for a response, including increases retroactive to the start of FY 2023-2024. The administration’s dilatory behavior in negotiations, along with loudly giving raises to everyone not in the bargaining unit, are boilerplate anti-union tactics. We can overcome those tactics and win the raises we deserve if we stand together.
